Not only is the Still home to virtually every piece of artwork created during Clyfford Still’s lifetime (don’t worry\, it’s not all displayed at once!)\, it also takes visitors on a journey through his personal life with interactive displays and collections of mementos. If that’s not enough to get you through the door\, then perhaps the sheer beauty of the building and its stunning concrete architecture will. This is a fascinating and inspiring place! \nWho was Clyfford Still? \nFrom the Museum: Clyfford Still was among the first generation of Abstract Expressionists who developed a new\, powerful approach to painting in the years immediately following World War II. Still’s contemporaries included Philip Guston\, Franz Kline\, Willem de Kooning\, Robert Motherwell\, Barnett Newman\, Jackson Pollock\, and Mark Rothko. Though the styles and approaches of these artists varied considerably\, Abstract Expressionism is marked by abstract forms\, expressive brushwork\, and monumental scale\, all of which were used to convey universal themes about creation\, life\, struggle\, and death (“the human condition”)\, themes that took on a considerable relevance during and after World War II. \nLearn more about the Still Museum: http://clyffordstillmuseum.org

DESCRIPTION:Denver Art Museum’s Untitled Final Fridays are our favorite fridays of the month! Centered around a vague theme\, these fun evenings feature interesting presentations\, fun things to make and take\, mini theater performances from Buntport Theater\, gallery tours of all varieties\, plus great music by a live DJ\, cash bar and light munchies. Show up and be ready to explore and get creative with local artists\, entertainers and DAM staff. Untitled is free for members and general admission price for other visitors. \nDAM description of this event: Take a turn toward the supernatural. Soak up the spirit of the night with a look at the otherworldly colors of the fauvist movement\, share ghost stories in the galleries\, and score big in a museum-wide trick-or-treat. \nNote: This is the FINAL Untitled of the 2014 season. There are no Untitled events in November and December.
