SUMMARY:Re:Denver - Infill\, Refill and Everything In Between!
DESCRIPTION:Join Historic Denver and a panel of experts to explore what makes good infill\, the forces that shape design\, and the relationship between old and new buildings in our neighborhoods. As Denver grows and changes\, new development and infill will shape Denver for decades to come. re:Denver hopes to discuss issues that will have a significant and lasting impact on who we are and how we will be remembered. \nThis is a free event\, open to all. More info \nSpeakers: \nJeffrey Sheppard\nJeffrey Sheppard is co-founder and design principal for Roth Sheppard Architects in Denver. He was the American Institute of Architects’ 2014 Architect of the Year in Colorado. Sheppard has grounded his practice in the rigor and delight and romantic minimalism. The firm’s design work reflects a dedication to impacting the environment in a positive way while elevating the profession’s and public’s expectation of design through mentoring\, teaching\, speaking and writing. In May 2015 Sheppard authored an article in the Denver Post titled “Denver is a great city\, so why the bad buildings?” to encourage further discussion. \nJim Lindberg\nJim Lindberg is the senior director of the Preservation Green Lab\, a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Jim has worked for the National Trust since 1991\, focusing efforts both locally and nationally. Most recently Jim was involved in the research and publication of “Older\, Smaller\, Better\, Measuring how the character of buildings and blocks influences urban vitality.” Jim also served on Denver’s Zoning Code Task Force. \nBrad K. Evans\nKnown to many as the creator of the wildly-popular Denver Cruiser Ride\, Evans has gained traction as local agitator – by launching a Facebook Group aptly named\, DenverFUGLY. With the creation of this group\, Evans unwittingly tapped into one of Denver’s hot button issues – which has sparked an exciting and lively conversation about the transformation of Denver’s urban neighborhoods and what is\, and is not\, FUGLY. The FB group has grown to nearly 2\,000 members in a short period time\, and has engaged (and enraged) a diverse audience from both pro-and anti-growth camps. Evans received a BFA (Painting & Sculpture) from the University of Arizona and frequently works with area developers as a real estate agent at DenverCORE\, and is principal of his own design/marketing firm ConceptFIXER.com \nHeather Noyes\nHeather is Managing Principal of StudioCPG\, a landscape architecture firm based in the Berkeley neighborhood. Heather specializes in land use planning and design policies and works closely with municipalities and land owners to draft strategic implementation plans that reflect the vision and goals of the community. Heather’s experience as a landscape architect provides her with a detailed understanding of design issues and the effect public and private redevelopment have on the existing framework and historic development patterns of a community. \nDennis Humphries\nDennis is a founding principal of Humphries Poli Architects and has been designing buildings\, from libraries to residences and offices\, for over forty years. He is currently a member of Historic Denver’s Board of Trustees\, Vice Chair of the Civic Center Conservancy and the past chair of the Landmark Preservation Commission\, as well as a founder of the Denver Architectural Foundation. Dennis was recognized as the 2013 recipient of the James S. Sudler\, AIA Award for Contributions to AIA Denver and Denver architecture.
