SUMMARY:Denver General Obligation (GO) Bonds Public Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Periodically\, the City and County of Denver authorizes General Obligation (GO) Bonds to restore\, replace\, and expand infrastructure and capital assets across the city. Denver plans to present the next general obligation bond (GO Bond) authorization to voters in November 2017\, based on Elevate 2020\, the 2015-2020 Six Year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). The CIP identifies Denver’s major city asset rehabilitation needs and new investment opportunities in capital infrastructure. Projects that the GO Bond can pay for must be city-owned and operated assets. \nThe last GO bond was the Better Denver Bond Program in 2007\, which provided funding for more than 380 projects related to health and human services\, public safety and culture. \n\nPublic input on the 2017 bond process will begin with initial public meetings in November and December 2016 to gather feedback from residents on their ideas for areas of capital investment. The information gathered during this phase will help identify a package of proposals that will be submitted to City Council for referral to the November 2017 ballot. \nRead the press release from Mayor Hancock announcing the community meetings (en Español). \n\n\n\n\n\nAttend a Community Meeting\nThese meetings are co-hosted with Denver City Council members. \nDownload meeting invitation flyers\nEnglish (PDF) — español (PDF) \n\nThese meetings are co-hosted with Denver City Council members: \nTuesday\, November 15\, 6-7:30 p.m: Montbello Campus\, 5000 Crown Blvd. \nThursday\, November 17\, 6-7:30 p.m: Teller Elementary School\, 1150 Garfield St. \nTuesday\, November 29\, 6-7:30 p.m.: Corky Gonzales Library\, 1498 Irving St. \nThursday\, December 1\, 6-7:30 p.m.: Lincoln High School\, 2285 S. SUMMARY:European Book Club – Death and the Penguin
DESCRIPTION:A book club with a twist! The European Book Club at the Alliance Française de Denver meets monthly on the last Tuesday of the month to discuss a different Europe-centered book (in ENGLISH). Refreshments are provided\, but space is limited so reserving your spot is essential. \nAbout the Book: In the widely hailed prequel to Penguin Lost\, aspiring writer Viktor Zolotaryov leads a down-and-out life in poverty-and-violence-wracked Kiev—he’s out of work and his only friend is a penguin\, Misha\, that he rescued when the local zoo started getting rid of animals. Even more nerve-wracking: a local mobster has taken a shine to Misha and wants to keep borrowing him for events. \nViktor thinks he’s finally caught a break when he lands a well-paying job at the Kiev newspaper writing “living obituaries” of local dignitaries—articles to be filed for use when the time comes. \nThe only thing is\, it seems the time always comes as soon as Viktor writes the article. Slowly understanding that his own life may be in jeopardy\, Viktor also realizes that the only thing that might be keeping him alive is his penguin. \nMore info and reservations: http://www.afdenver.org/event/european-book-club-death-and-the-penguin/ \n[Free for AF Denver members; $5 others]
