DESCRIPTION:The Denver Museum of Nature & Science is pleased to partner with the International Institute for Indigenous Resource Management and the Denver American Indian Commission to present Indigenous Film\, a monthly indigenous film series. \nFilms will be screened at the Museum’s Phipps IMAX Theater. Doors open at 6 p.m.\, films begin at 6:30 p.m. Please use the IMAX Evening entrance on the east side of the Museum. \n  \nMarch: Short Films from Around the World \nOgress of the Gravelbank\, director Neil Christopher.  A supernatural creature from Inuit oral history\, the Ogress of the Gravelbank lures children into her cave. All that perish in the cave remain there as spirits and animated corpses. (Taqqut Productions\, 2015\, 3 min.). \nSicigorousawa un Cironnop (The Fox of Shichigorosawa)\, director Tune Sugihara. In this ecological fable\, a mother fox ventures into the city to find food when illegal dumping destroys her habitat. In Ainu with English subtitles. Stories of space canoes and space/time travel across dimensions unfold to “Trade Song” by the Métis Fiddler Quartet in the experimental stop motion. (Elizabeth LaPensée \, 2015\, 4 min.). \nMarie’s Dictionary\, director Emmanuel Vaughan-Lee.Marie Wilcox\, the last fluent speaker of the Wukchumni language\, has spent many years creating a dictionary and recording stories to keep her language alive. (Global Oneness Project\, 2014\, 10 min.). \nThe Spectacular Imagination of the Pohara Brothers\, director Todd Karehana (Maori).  Inspired by his own upbringing\, Karehana makes a statement about optimism\, and how imagination can get you through the tough times. “I think this story needs to be told because it shows poor kids doing good.” A spectacular ride with the imaginative Pohara brothers.  With acclaimed singer/actor Whirimako Black.
