SUMMARY:Improving Education in Early Elementary: A Case for the PreK-3 Continuum in Colorado
DESCRIPTION:Researchers have demonstrated that participation in high-quality early childhood programs improves academic\, behavioral\, socio-emotional and cognitive outcomes for all children\, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Although benefits of high quality preschool have been found through adulthood\, studies have revealed some benefits disappear by the time children are in third grade. \nWithout alignment in curricula and instruction between preschool and elementary\, as well as continuous support that takes into consideration the developmental\, linguistic\, and cultural characteristics of young children\, participation in early childhood does not prevent risk of academic failure for some children. \nIn this session\, we will discuss ways in which educational leaders\, educators and teacher educators in Colorado might strengthen early elementary to build on the benefits of early childhood education. \nWhen: 5:30-7 p.m.\, Wed.\, March 15\, 2017\nWhere: Terrace Room (2nd floor)\, 1380 Lawrence Street\, Denver (map)\nAdmission: Free\, but space is limited — register today!
