SUMMARY:film/Still: BURDEN
DESCRIPTION:This season\, the Clyfford Still Museum is delighted to partner with Alamo Drafthouse to present films that relate to both the exhibitions on view at the Museum and the wider art world. At every screening\, you’ll enjoy more than 30 beers on tap; a full selection of wines and handcrafted cocktails; and a multicourse menu with service right to your seat. Join the Still for new art documentaries about important artists of the 20thcentury as well as films\, screened on the occasion of Shade: Clyfford Still / Mark Bradford\, that explore African American identity\, racism\, art\, and human relationships. \n\nBURDEN (Richard Dewey and Timothy Marrinan\, 2016\, 90 minutes)\nExperience the metamorphosis of the artist Chris Burden\, who guaranteed his place in art history beginning in 1971 while still a student in Southern California. Preceded by a period of often dangerous\, at times stomach-churning performances\, he then reinvented himself as a creator of captivating installations and sculptures\, including an assemblage of antique street lights rewired for solar energy on permanent display outside the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Critic Brian Gordon writes\, “For 45 years\, Chris Burden maintained a quest to challenge perceived boundaries of modern art in an always awe-inspiring manner. …Burdenmeticulously explores a complex\, ever-evolving individual who became one of the most admired artists of his generation.” \n[$8] \nPurchase tickets at drafthouse.com\nMultiple screenings daily. Check Alamo Drafthouse website for listings.\nFree bottomless popcorn for CSM members with member ID.

SUMMARY:Behind the Science: Explore the Natural History Collections
DESCRIPTION:On select Fridays\, 1-1:30 pm\, Denver Botanic Gardens docents will be leading a drop-in tour\, “Behind the Science: Explore the Natural History Collections.” The next tours are May 5 and May 19. Tours are included with Gardens admission and no reservations are needed. All ages welcome but tours are most appropriate for ages 8+. Group size is limited to 15. \nIn the basement of Boettcher Memorial Center\, you will discover the thousands of preserved plant and fungal specimens that reside in the Kathryn Kalmbach Herbarium of Vascular Plants and the Sam Mitchel Herbarium of Fungi and view a small selection of insects that are housed in the Arthropod Collection. \n\nWhy are Natural History Collections important\, and why does Denver Botanic Gardens have them?\nWhat is a herbarium?\nWhat is the difference between “herbarium” and “herbaria”?\nOr\, maybe you have heard about our recent renovation and are wondering what it entailed!\n\nThese are just some of the many questions we hope to address during the tour. There is much to discover within our Natural History Collections\, from the artistry of pinned insects to the informative labels which will allow anyone from anywhere in the world to use the collections for decades to come. \nOn the tour\, docents can also show you the process for how we collect our plant specimens and how to view our collections from home. \n[Free with admission to the Gardens] \nMore info: https://www.botanicgardens.org/blog/new-drop-tour-discover-natural-history-collections
