DESCRIPTION:Art Drop Day is SO MUCH FUN! \nThis year\, Art Drop Day will take place on Tuesday\, September 5th\, 2017. \nHere’s how it works: \n• Make art and hide it somewhere.\n• Take a photo of either the art or the hiding spot or a combination of both.\n• Post the image\, the city you dropped it in\, and a hint on any social media of your choice. Be sure to included the hashtag: #artdropday\n• Then move on\, hoping someone finds it OR hang around and meet your new friend. \nThat’s it! \nIf you’re dropping art or looking for art in Denver\, use #artdropdenver and follow Denver Arts and Venues throughout the day. \nIn previous years\, we’ve found a little painted canvas\, a work of fiber arts\, a book (writing is an art too!) and a wooden box with a cork top. \nWe like to hide little felted owls. DESCRIPTION:Reception begins at 7:00pm with a BBQ cook-off with food from The Nickel\, Mizu Izakaya\, Rollin’ Smoke BBQ and Hearth & Dram as well as drinks from Southern Wine + Sprits! \nFilm begins at 8:00pm \nPrior to the screening Dr. Nicole Garneau from the Denver Museum of Nature & Science will speak about the Maillard reaction (the chemical reaction between amino acids and reducing sugars that gives browned food its distinctive flavor) and umami (or\, the savory taste). \nIn barbecue we see a ritual performed religiously across the world. For some it’s a path to salvation. It is the pride of nations. It brings the world together. \nIn South Africa barbecue roasts over coals as people in the townships and suburbs find new ways to live together post-apartheid. In Texas\, pitmasters feed the masses fueled by pride in their craft and community. Across the border a Mexican family works through the night\, surviving by sheer determination. Armenians defiantly cling to their traditions and their homeland\, while exiled Syrians find new hope through shawarma stalls in a border refugee camp. In Australia a rural town rejects modern life\, while in Tokyo yakitori chefs are inspired by the pulse of the city.
