SUMMARY:Free Film at DPL: Good Hair (2009)
DESCRIPTION:Join the Denver Public Library Fresh City Life office for their May documentary film series. All films are shown on the big screen in the B2 Conference Room at the Central Library and they’re FREE! \nFilm Description from the DPL Website: Starring Chris Rock. Directed by Jeff Stilson.\n“The inspiration for Rock’s film was an encounter with his youngest daughter\, who tearfully asked him\, “Why don’t I have good hair?” That launched Rock on an odyssey that took him from Harlem to Atlanta to India\, examining the various aspects of the black hair-care industry. In the process\, he opens a window on both a world of commerce and offers an insight into black self-image.” – hollywoodandfine.com. 96 minutes. Rated PG-13.

SUMMARY:WWII from Coloradans Who Lived It
DESCRIPTION:What more fitting way to observe Memorial Day than by listening to the recollections of those who have defended our country during a time of need\, World War II. \nFrom the History Colorado Website: In Sterling Heroes of World War II – As It Was Lived\, In Their Own Words\, 36 veterans from northeast Colorado share wartime experiences that today pre-date nine in 10 living Americans. With the 70th anniversary of victory over Germany and Japan upon us\, their stories remind all what it took to defeat global tyranny. Dr. John Elliff and Denny Dressman collaborated on this microcosm of hometown heroes who served in all branches of the military and in all theaters of action. They’ll discuss the sometimes poignant\, sometimes harrowing\, sometimes humorous – but always readable – individual recollections of that pivotal time: As It Was Lived\, In Their Own Words. As Dressman wrote in the book’s ending note: “…Thanks to the Sterling Heroes for sharing\, and to Dr. Elliff for asking them to.” \nTickets: Members $4\, nonmembers $5. Buy online or by calling 303-866-2394.

SUMMARY:Free Film at DPL: Valley of the Dolls (1967)
DESCRIPTION:Starring Patty Duke\, Susan Hayward\, Sharon Tate\, and Barbara Parkins. Directed by Mark Robson.\nIn the opening scene of Valley of the Dolls\, Susan Hayward barks\, “The only hit that comes out of a Helen Lawson show is Helen Lawson. And that’s me\, remember\, baby?”  From that moment forward the audience is treated to a camp classic of the first water. “Show business corrupts nice girls — that’s Valley’s sad\, funny truth. Stay away from Hollywood (or Broadway)\, girls\, if you want to keep your virtue and your sanity.  Anne Welles (Barbara Parkins) leaves the snowbound protection of chaste New England for Sodom on the Hudson — New York City — where she is bound to find her doom.” – flickfilosopher.com.  123 minutes. Rated PG-13. \nThis film will be shown on the big screen in the B2 Conference Room at the Central Library and it’s FREE!
