SUMMARY:Play Space: Artist-Led Creative Play
DESCRIPTION:Kids and families are invited to join RedLine for artist-led creative play sessions at Mestizo-Curtis Park on Saturdays\, 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM throughout the summer. \nThe program is FREE and open to the public. Registration is NOT required. Food and drinks will be provided! \nMore Info: http://redlineart.org/art/events/exhibitions/play-space-creative-play.html \nSession Descriptions from Redline: \nSession 1: May 30\, June 6\, June 13\, and June 20 \nLed by artists Ashley Frazier and Michael Sperandeo \nThe first session features community artists Ashley Frazier and Mike Sperandeo with their interactive basketball sculpture. Any person that wants to be involved in the creation of this piece is invited to try and score a basket with a balloon filled with non-toxic\, washable paint. Not only is throwing paint at things as fun as it seems\, but the colorful surface of the sculpture that results from repeated attempts shows that every time you try\, it has an impact. Even if you don’t always reach your intended goal\, the result can still be worthwhile! \nSession 2: June 27\, July 4\, July 11\, July 18 \nLed by artist Christine Dart \nDance instructor Christine Dart will help participants to tell stories about their neighborhood with dance\, theatre and play. Over the four weeks\, children and their families will be able to create a story-telling dance piece that they can perform together. Don’t worry if you aren’t a great dancer – this project is more about having fun while expressing yourself and learning others’ stories than it is about getting the steps perfect.  Participants are encouraged to attend as many dates as possible\, as each one is different and offers the chance to practice and build on what was done the previous week. \nSession 3: July 25\, August 1\, August 8\, August 15 \nLed by artist Tracy Tomko \nCommunity artist Tracy Tomko presents her project\, “Prototypes to Increase Exuberance” features objects modified in ridiculous ways to be swung\, twirled and bounced. The silly\, awkward way in which they are used serves as a method to deal with uncomfortable emotions. As a part of this interactive performance\, participants are encouraged to work with the artist to create their own unusual objects to use\, with their own symbolism and solutions to their own adversities. \nSession 4: August 15\, August 22\, August 29\, September 5 \nLed by arist Risa Murray \nCommunity artist Risa Murray will help the neighborhood to put on a puppet show. From deciding on a story from the Five Points/Whittier/Curtis Park area’s rich and diverse cultural past to making the puppets and sets and finally performing and watching the show as a community\, this fun experience will have children and families working and learning together.

SUMMARY:Chamberlin Observatory Open House
DESCRIPTION:Join the Denver Astrological society for one of their monthly open houses at the historic Chamberlin Observatory. During the event\, guests can view the heavens through the observatory’s famous 20-inch aperture Alvan Clark-Saegmuller refractor by checking in at the desk on the main floor of the observatory and paying a $2 per-person fee or $5 per family. If the weather is cloudy and not suitable for viewing with the observatory’s telescope\, there is a reduced $1 per-person entry fee to the observatory. In addition to touring the observatory\, the monthly open houses are a great time to interact with members of the DAS and get answers to questions about your telescope (feel free to bring your scope to set up outside of the Observatory as many DAS members do) or anything you see in the sky! Chamberlin Observatory Open House info.

SUMMARY:Summer on the Plaza Concert: Whiskey Folk
DESCRIPTION:Wednesdays are better with music! Arts Brookfield presents a series of free concerts at 1801 California on Wednesdays\, 5:30p – 7p in July to highlight rising stars of the Denver music scene\, and of course\, to help downtown workers to unwind after a day at the office. Concertgoers can enjoy happy hour specials at Guard and Grace\, adjacent to the plaza. \nMore info: http://artsbrookfield.com/events/?action=tribe_list&tribe_paged=1&tribe-bar-venue-field=781 \nWednesday\, July 8  – Science Partner\nScience Partner is a six-piece rock band that showcases lush\, three-part harmonies\, walls of guitars\, a tight rhythm section and unabashedly catchy pop arrangements. Made up of members of some of Denver’s finest and busiest bands\, their performances are somewhat rare but highly polished. Science Partner’s lyrical content ranges from the exiguity of humanity to the fleeting fame of a child. \nWednesday\, July 15 – Covenhoven\nColorado musician Joel Van Horne releases music under the moniker Covenhoven\, also the name given to the cabin his grandfather built deep in the woods of southern Wyoming between 1955 and 1965. His music has been referred to as “symphonic folk” and “mountain music.” \nWednesday\, July 22 – Max Hatt/Edda Glass\nMatt Hatt/Edda Glass describes their collaboration as an experiment to determine if complex\, sophisticated music is still culturally relevant\, with the ability to narrate human situations and resonate without translation and abstraction. The duo identifies their music as Bossa Nova\, Brazilian jazz\, jazz Americana and vocal jazz. \nWednesday\, July 29 – Whiskey Folk\nWhiskey Folk’s “folk noir” blends ominous\, reverb-dripping guitars with boot-stomping train beats and funereal horns to create sonic backdrops for down-on-your-luck ballads and beer-soaked anthems. Presented by Arts Brookfield\, Summer on the Plaza is just one of the exciting\, world-classcultural experiences presented to hundreds of thousands of people for free each year atBrookfield’s properties around the globe\, which include 1801 California and Republic Plaza\, located in downtown Denver.

SUMMARY:Free Day at The Kirkland Museum
DESCRIPTION:If you haven’t visited this incredible gem of a museum\, then go today!! (Just remember that the museum doesn’t allow kids under 13 as the museum is set up “salon style” meaning it’s like touring through a house with some objects just out in the open) \nFrom the Kirkland: On August 1\, 1876\, Colorado became the 38th state of the Union. Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art will celebrate Colorado Day on Saturday\, August 1\, 2015 by offering free admission to Colorado residents age 13 and above. Colorado’s place in American art ranks very high among the fifty states\, probably in the top 10\, not only because of the important artists who made this state their home\, but because of the famous artists who visited and worked here.  Kirkland Museum displays a major survey of Colorado art and some regional art with over 650 works by more than 200 artists shown at any one time. The museum also features a retrospective of Colorado’s distinguished painter Vance Kirkland (1904–1981)\, and one of the most important public displays of international decorative art in North America from Arts & Crafts to Postmodern. \nFree admission applies to Colorado residents (with ID) only on Saturday\, August 1\, 2015.  Open 11-5\, no children under 13. \nMore Info: http://www.kirklandmuseum.org/pages/index/events.html
