SUMMARY:Unsilent Night
DESCRIPTION:“Over the course of 45 minutes\, chiming and chants bounce off walls and windows transforming the coldest urban area with the warmth of musical fellowship.”\nNPR \n“A marvelously fluid\, traveling spatial sound sculpture that disintegrates and reforms at nearly every stop light.”\nTHE VILLAGE VOICE \nUnsilent Night from New York composer Phil Kline is a mobile sound sculpture experience where the audience becomes the performer\, which is being presented in Denver as well as in 34 other cities around the world this holiday season. The performance takes place as a holiday walk through downtown Denver\, with each person playing one of four ambient tracks downloaded to smartphones\, mp3 players\, or boomboxes. \nThis family-friendly event is free and open to the public\, and requires no previous musical experience to participate. \nDownload the music here: unsilentnight.com/participate.html\nOr get the mobile app here: AppleiOS | Android \nGather on the front steps of Central Presbyterian Church (1660 Sherman St at 17th St) at 6:00 and you’ll be treated to some hot chocolate and instructions on the route. Bring a smartphone with a portable bluetooth speaker or other means of amplification (recommended to download at the above links prior to the event)\, and bring friends and family. We’ll all press play simultaneously at 6:30 and begin our walk through a carefully chosen route through downtown Denver. The piece lasts for 45 minutes\, with an after-party at Caveau Wine Bar on 17th and Pennsylvania St. There will be a limited number of cassette tapes and CDs for boomboxes\, but please RSVP for one to wil@centraldenver.com. \nMore info: http://www.centraldenver.com/unsilentnight/

SUMMARY:Scrooged
DESCRIPTION:One Night Only! Monday\, December 21st at 7:30pm. \nCold-hearted TV exec Bill Murray is about to discover the true meaning of Christmas — the hard way. This wild\, woolly spin on Dickens’s A Christmas Carol sees Murray visited by three high-spirited spirits … and while there are laughs aplenty\, Murray’s reformation and redemption are immensely powerful. With hilarious support from John Forsythe\, Karen Allen\, Carol Kane and others\, Scrooged is a modern Christmas classic. \nMore info and tickets: http://www.denverfilm.org/filmcenter/detail.aspx?id=23747&FID=86

SUMMARY:TEENS: Mural Project with MCA
DESCRIPTION:Come join Denver artists Jaime Molina & Pedro Barrios for a hands on mural project at MCA Denver in the Teen Lounge. \nGrab a brush\, and help out with the mural. Teens are invited to stop by on Dec 22 & Dec 29-31 from 12-5PM. \nNo prior art experience necessary. When his family relocated to the United States\, he spent his adolescence in Florida and eventually made his way to the mountains of Colorado. At 34\, Pedro now has degrees in both Business Marketing and Nursing. Pedro’s work is influenced by the diverse cultures of his upbringing\, world travels\, and naturally occurring patterns. As a Denver resident and prominent member of the local art community\, Pedro’s work has been shown at many galleries throughout the city. In 2013\, Pedro and Jaime collaborated on their first mural. Since then\, the duo has continued to work together on their intricate murals\, brightening the harsh city landscapes. Pedro and Jaime’s work is aimed at connecting with the general public and bringing enjoyment to the masses. \nJaime Molina graduated from Metropolitan State University of Denver in 2003. He received a BFA with an emphasis in printmaking. He is very fluent in many facets of art making including multi- media painting\, sculpture\, printmaking and murals. After graduating he has exhibited work nationally in several states\, as well as internationally in Buenos Aires\, Argentina in 2012. He has traveled extensively through Latin America and had the opportunity to live in Buenos Aires from 2011 -2012. It was there that he began to explore working on large scale murals on the streets of Buenos Aires. The accessibility and ease of working on the street was an incredibly inspiring experience for him. A method which he brought back home upon returning to Colorado. He has since painted many privately commissioned murals as well as publicly funded murals for the city of Denver. He currently resides and works in Lakewood\, Colorado.

Bring a friend! \nTeen Mural Project\nDecember 22 & 29-31.\n12–5PM | FREE for 18 & Under \nMore info: http://mcadenver.org/2015teenmural.php \nPedro Barrios was born in Miami\, Florida\, and raised in Venezuela until the age of seven.

SUMMARY:FINAL WEEK: Repeat/Recreate: Clyfford Still’s “Replicas”
DESCRIPTION:This exhibit of Clyfford Still’s “replicas” (wait\, abstract expressionists paint copies?! Fascinating and true) is one of our favorite exhibits yet to grace the beautiful rally spaces at the Clyfford Still Museum since it opened in 2011. You really should see it before it closes on January 10\, 2016. \nHere’s the exhibit description from the Museum: \nAn exhibition of closely related compositions that Still called “replicas\,” Repeat/Recreate features major works by Clyfford Still exhibited in pairings. Uncanny and often darkly magnetic\, they provide a new and greater understanding of Still’s process and methods\, while challenging the popular understanding of Abstract Expressionism as an outpouring of impulsive creativity. \nThe exhibition brings together works of art from some of the world’s most renowned collections\, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art\, Museum of Modern Art\, Detroit Institute of Arts\, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden\, and Smithsonian American Art Museum. At least nineteen works featured in Repeat/Recreate have never been shown publicly\, and only one of the exhibition’s pairings has previously been exhibited in tandem. \nMore info: https://clyffordstillmuseum.org/exhibitions/
