SUMMARY:TEENS: Mural Project with MCA
DESCRIPTION:Come join Denver artists Jaime Molina & Pedro Barrios for a hands on mural project at MCA Denver in the Teen Lounge. \nGrab a brush\, and help out with the mural. Teens are invited to stop by on Dec 22 & Dec 29-31 from 12-5PM. \nNo prior art experience necessary. Bring a friend! \nTeen Mural Project\nDecember 22 & 29-31.\n12–5PM | FREE for 18 & Under \nMore info: http://mcadenver.org/2015teenmural.php \nPedro Barrios was born in Miami\, Florida\, and raised in Venezuela until the age of seven. When his family relocated to the United States\, he spent his adolescence in Florida and eventually made his way to the mountains of Colorado. At 34\, Pedro now has degrees in both Business Marketing and Nursing. Pedro’s work is influenced by the diverse cultures of his upbringing\, world travels\, and naturally occurring patterns. As a Denver resident and prominent member of the local art community\, Pedro’s work has been shown at many galleries throughout the city. In 2013\, Pedro and Jaime collaborated on their first mural. Since then\, the duo has continued to work together on their intricate murals\, brightening the harsh city landscapes. Pedro and Jaime’s work is aimed at connecting with the general public and bringing enjoyment to the masses. \nJaime Molina graduated from Metropolitan State University of Denver in 2003. He received a BFA with an emphasis in printmaking. He is very fluent in many facets of art making including multi- media painting\, sculpture\, printmaking and murals. After graduating he has exhibited work nationally in several states\, as well as internationally in Buenos Aires\, Argentina in 2012. He has traveled extensively through Latin America and had the opportunity to live in Buenos Aires from 2011 -2012. It was there that he began to explore working on large scale murals on the streets of Buenos Aires. The accessibility and ease of working on the street was an incredibly inspiring experience for him. A method which he brought back home upon returning to Colorado. He has since painted many privately commissioned murals as well as publicly funded murals for the city of Denver. He currently resides and works in Lakewood\, Colorado.

Fascinating and true) is one of our favorite exhibits yet to grace the beautiful rally spaces at the Clyfford Still Museum since it opened in 2011. You really should see it before it closes on January 10\, 2016. \nHere’s the exhibit description from the Museum: \nAn exhibition of closely related compositions that Still called “replicas\,” Repeat/Recreate features major works by Clyfford Still exhibited in pairings. Uncanny and often darkly magnetic\, they provide a new and greater understanding of Still’s process and methods\, while challenging the popular understanding of Abstract Expressionism as an outpouring of impulsive creativity. \nThe exhibition brings together works of art from some of the world’s most renowned collections\, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art\, Museum of Modern Art\, Detroit Institute of Arts\, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden\, and Smithsonian American Art Museum. At least nineteen works featured in Repeat/Recreate have never been shown publicly\, and only one of the exhibition’s pairings has previously been exhibited in tandem. \nMore info: https://clyffordstillmuseum.org/exhibitions/

SUMMARY:Juan Thompson (Son of Hunter S.) Author Talk
DESCRIPTION:Denver author Juan Thompson\, who grew up in Woody Creek\, Colorado with his father\, Hunter S. Thompson\, will read from\, discuss\, and sign his new memoir Stories I Tell Myself: Growing Up with Hunter S. Thompson ($26.95 Knopf) “A tender but tough tale of growing up as the son of the fearsome\, charismatic and unrestrained writer\, Hunter S. Thompson. At the peak of his career\, Hunter was a terrifying and neglectful parent\, wreaking all kinds of damage on his family\, but as his talent waned he learned to be a dutiful father\, and doting grandparent. All of this is observed acutely in painful and loving detail\, in a book that will be seen as an essential piece of the Thompson history and also in its own right as a classic memoir of growing up weird.” -Jann Wenner\, co-founder and publisher of Rolling Stone \nBook signings and author talks at Tattered Cover are free to attend and open to the public. \nMore info: http://www.tatteredcover.com/new-event-calendar

Her role in the band right now is centered in voice\, violin\, and collaborative writing. \nKhadijah Queen – Khadijah Queen was born in Michigan and raised in Los Angeles. She is the author of four books and four chapbooks\, and her verse play Non-Sequitur won an award and was staged in New York City in December 2015\, which is pretty awesome. She lives in Denver\, works as an editor for a finance company and is raising a teenager. \nBrian Smith – Brian Smith is a renaissance man. A bartender\, civil war historian\, agave enthusiast\, musician\, and dog lover. Amazing storyteller to boot! \nMore info: http://raconteurdenver.com
