SUMMARY:B-Side Thursdays: Famethrowah & Roka Hueka
DESCRIPTION:B-Side Thursdays is a rooftop summer music series at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) focused on presenting the best up and coming colorado bands + side projects of well known Denver bands and musicians. \nMusic 6p-8p\nMembers always FREE | Non-Members $5 admission after 5p; youth under 18 always free\nAll ages. Come early\, capacity limited. \nMore info: http://mcadenver.org/bsidemusic2016.php \nFamethrowah\nWhat does a nihilist in love sound like? Can a ukulele scream into the void? FAMETHROWAH has meager means to answer these questions. Armed only with tiny instruments and debatable sincerity\, FAMETHROWAH’s only hope is to smash the flat time-disk with songs about singing songs about singing songs. \nRoka Hueka\nFrontman Andy Gonzalez brought his love for energetic ska from Chihuahua\, Mexico to Denver\, Colorado. Finding time from his job as a construction worker\, he formed Roka Hueka in the fall of 2013. In May of 2016\, the band released their first studio album simply titled\, ‘Red’\, which draws from diverse musical influences included funk\, reggae\, disco\, soul and cumbia. Roka Hueka has shared the stage with international ska legends\, The Slackers (New York City)\, Panteón Rococo (Mexico City) and Rabanes (Panama City). Roka has preformed at Denver’s major venues including The Bluebird Theatre\, La Rumba\, The Marquis Theater\, Walnut Room\, and Casselman’s. Roka Hueka brings an extremely high-energy performance and has a dedicated following among Latino immigrant communities as well as all fans of ska and reggae.

SUMMARY:City Park Jazz: Imagine featuring Melvin Seals (Jerry Garcia Band)\, Ray White (Frank Zappa)\, Damon Wood (James Brown) & Friends
DESCRIPTION:Melvin is best known for his long friendship and musical partnership with cultural icon and guitarist Jerry Garcia and the smile of his that lights up the room. Melvin spun his B-3 magic with the Jerry Garcia Band for 18 years and in doing so helped pioneer and define what has now become “Jam Band Music”. \nThe best is yet to come. From blues to funk to rock to bluegrass\, The Mix serves up a tasty mix with a little R&B and gospel thrown in to spice things up. Each member of this powerhouse lineup brings an intuitive\, expressive style\, soul\, spontaneity and remarkable chops to the table. With acoustic and electric ingredients and unique combinations of guitar\, mandolin\, slide and lap steel with savory bass\, hearty drums and\, of course\, a heapin’ helpin’ of the wizard’s magic on Hammond B-3 Organ and keyboards\, the result is a most satisfying blend of natural organic grooves that challenges genre boundaries. \nThe Melvin Seals’ performances are a must see\, must feel experience! Their music is guaranteed to get into your soul\, raise your spirit and get you groin’! \nAll City Park Jazz concerts are FREE and take place rain or shine at the bandstand by the pavilion on Ferril Lake \nFree parking is available throughout the park—please be a good neighbor and avoid parking on side-streets around the park. Or better yet\, ride your bike and enjoy free bike parking monitored by City Park Jazz volunteers at the Bike Corral in the Pavilion from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. \nMore info: http://cityparkjazz.org
