SUMMARY:Play Space: Artist-Led Creative Play
DESCRIPTION:Kids and families are invited to join RedLine for artist-led creative play sessions at Mestizo-Curtis Park on Saturdays\, 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM throughout the summer. \nThe program is FREE and open to the public. Registration is NOT required. Food and drinks will be provided! \nMore Info: http://redlineart.org/art/events/exhibitions/play-space-creative-play.html \nSession Descriptions from Redline: \nSession 1: May 30\, June 6\, June 13\, and June 20 \nLed by artists Ashley Frazier and Michael Sperandeo \nThe first session features community artists Ashley Frazier and Mike Sperandeo with their interactive basketball sculpture. Any person that wants to be involved in the creation of this piece is invited to try and score a basket with a balloon filled with non-toxic\, washable paint. Not only is throwing paint at things as fun as it seems\, but the colorful surface of the sculpture that results from repeated attempts shows that every time you try\, it has an impact. Even if you don’t always reach your intended goal\, the result can still be worthwhile! \nSession 2: June 27\, July 4\, July 11\, July 18 \nLed by artist Christine Dart \nDance instructor Christine Dart will help participants to tell stories about their neighborhood with dance\, theatre and play. Over the four weeks\, children and their families will be able to create a story-telling dance piece that they can perform together. Don’t worry if you aren’t a great dancer – this project is more about having fun while expressing yourself and learning others’ stories than it is about getting the steps perfect.  Participants are encouraged to attend as many dates as possible\, as each one is different and offers the chance to practice and build on what was done the previous week. \nSession 3: July 25\, August 1\, August 8\, August 15 \nLed by artist Tracy Tomko \nCommunity artist Tracy Tomko presents her project\, “Prototypes to Increase Exuberance” features objects modified in ridiculous ways to be swung\, twirled and bounced. The silly\, awkward way in which they are used serves as a method to deal with uncomfortable emotions. As a part of this interactive performance\, participants are encouraged to work with the artist to create their own unusual objects to use\, with their own symbolism and solutions to their own adversities. \nSession 4: August 15\, August 22\, August 29\, September 5 \nLed by arist Risa Murray \nCommunity artist Risa Murray will help the neighborhood to put on a puppet show. From deciding on a story from the Five Points/Whittier/Curtis Park area’s rich and diverse cultural past to making the puppets and sets and finally performing and watching the show as a community\, this fun experience will have children and families working and learning together.

SUMMARY:Tattered Cover Classic: Paris\, Texas
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Howie Movshovitz\nPresented by Tattered Cover Bookstore and KUNC Radio\nTickets are $1.00! \nThis is German filmmaker Wim Wenders at his best. It’s a film of wandering\, searching and landscape as a man (Harry Dean Stanton) meanders through the American west – through literal desert and the spiritual/emotional desert of Los Angeles trying to find his son and his wife and hoping he can somehow reassemble their fragmented family. Like much of Wenders’s work\, Paris\, Texas takes its time; its own fragments come together slowly – and brilliantly. USA\, 1984\, 147 Minute Running Time\nAdditional Countries: Germany\, France

SUMMARY:What's with all the SPYING?
DESCRIPTION:We love how Warm Cookies of the Revolution invites everyone to dive in and explore relevent topics in ways that are not only informative\, but also fun and friendly. This event is all about SPYING! \n Protection and security? Who is doing it and why? Can we decide to turn it on or off? Should we just use Psychics and Fortune Tellers? Come discuss what spying looks like in Colorado with the Colorado ACLU\, the Denver Public Library\, State Representative Jonathan Singer\, and Commander Pat Rigdon from the Colorado Springs Police Department. We’ll also hear from folks who were spied on and saw their files years later. \nAnd since we’re looking at the idea of prediction and our private lives\, it wouldn’t be a full investigation without some Fortune Tellers and Psychics on hand!\n****Yes\, real live folks who talk to people on the other side and can predict the future.**** \nSuggested donation of $5 (come on\, you know you want there to always be cookies!) \nMore info: Stupid Questions Stupid Talents: What’s with all the Spying

SUMMARY:OPENING: The Power of Poison
DESCRIPTION:The Power of Poison is a new exhibit at the Museum of Nature and Science that is included with admission. Poison Exhibit Info \nDescription from DMNS website: \nPOISON IN NATURE\nThere is an extraordinary variety of evolutionary strategies among plants and animals that use poison in their struggle to survive. Colombia’s Chocó forest is home to many dangerous inhabitants and is the perfect place to look for adaptations\, ranging from mimicking the colors of deadlier species to lethal partnerships forged between poisonous insects and the plants that provide them with food and shelter. \n\nBecome immersed in a re-creation of the remote Chocó forest. As you wander through the foliage\, see live poison dart frogs\, explore models of venomous insects at three times their normal size\, and find out some of the ways humans have figured out which plants are toxic.\n\nSTORIES OF POISON\nThere was a time when magic—not science—was widely used to explain abnormal behavior\, a time when the lines between poison\, magic\, and disease were often blurred. Not surprisingly\, poisonous plants and other toxins can be found at the core of countless fairy tales\, legends\, and literary works. Some of the most unlikely stories often contain kernels of truth. \n\nEncounter a life-size diorama of a famous scene from Shakespeare’s Macbeth\, featuring a trio of witches surrounding their boiling cauldron and drawing on the magical powers of highly poisonous plants.\n\n\nAnother diorama portrays the story of Snow White. She has eaten a “poisoned apple” and fallen into a deep sleep. In the fairy tale\, she later revives. Is this really possible? Examine some potential scenarios.\n\n\nA scene from the Mad Hatter’s tea party from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland focuses on how this character’s odd behavior was likely inspired by symptoms of mercury poisoning suffered by workers in the hat-making industry in the 18th and 19th centuries.\n\n\nAdditional displays feature other popular characters whose stories involve poison\, such as Harry Potter\, Sherlock Holmes\, and Lemony Snicket.\n\n\nTurn the pages of the Enchanted Book\, which “magically” reveals the origins and myths of well-known poisonous plant species\, such as belladonna and monkshood.\n\n\nWatch the ancient myths of Hercules and Medea unfold in animations projected onto ceramic pots.\n\nUNDERSTANDING POISON\nSources of illness and death were mysterious for most of human history\, especially if they involved poison\, which was typically difficult to detect. The birth of modern forensics and the emergence of toxicology as a scientific discipline provided new methods for solving criminal cases involving poison. \n\nDuring a live gallery show\, hear the story of a real-world case from the 19th century. See demonstrations that show the chemistry of poison\, and discover how new methods for detecting poison emerged.\n\nPOISON BY ACCIDENT\nPoisoning is not always the result of a criminal action. Accidental poisonings occur to animals and humans. Today’s knowledge of the effect of toxins means that poisonings can usually be treated if they are caught in time. \n\nPlay detective as you explore life-size shadow boxes portraying accidental poisonings. An iPad app guides you as you find clues and solve the puzzling cases. Continue the fun by downloading the free app The Power of Poison: Be a Detective.\n\nPOISON FOR GOOD\nThe field of toxicology was born out of a specific and urgent need—to detect poisons and prevent illness or death. Over the past century\, advances in cellular biology have allowed scientists to discover different ways in which poisons affect human cells and to figure out how to put that power to work restoring human health. \n\nExplore how plant and animal toxins are being studied as sources for new life-saving drugs. Surprises include draculin\, an anticlotting agent in vampire bat saliva that can assist stroke patients.\nEncounter a model of a gigantic yew tree\, which is extremely poisonous but whose bark has proven effective in cancer treatments. Lord Voldemort’s wand in the Harry Potter series is made of yew!

SUMMARY:Theater on the Green: Seussical the Musical
DESCRIPTION:Theater on the Green at Stapleton is truly a treat. All performances are FREE and open to the public and take place on a lovely green lawn in the heart of the Stapleton Town Center. These productions are professionally produced and feature stage lighting and audio so everyone can see and hear the performance. Bring a picnic blanket or low-rise chairs\, some drinks and snacks (or purchase on site from food trucks and nearby restaurants) and enjoy a delightful evening of theater under the stars. \nAbout Seussical the Musical (from Wikipedia): Seussical is a musical by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty based on the books of Dr. Seuss (mainly “Horton Hears a Who!”\, “Horton Hatches the Egg” and “Miss Gertrude McFuzz”) that debuted on Broadway in 2000. The play’s story is a rather complex amalgamation of many of Seuss’s most famous books. After a Broadway run\, the production spawned two US national tours and a UK tour. It has become a favorite for school\, community and regional theatres. \nMore information about Theater on the Green: http://www.stapletoncommunity.com/programs/signature-events/outdoor-theatre-series
