SUMMARY:Performance: 20 Works in 20 Minutes
DESCRIPTION:Clyfford Still’s artistic language embraces vocabulary from the figurative to the highly gestural and from the representational to the graphic and abstract. Many of these features have correlations in music and sound. Based on these ideas\, composer Nathan Hall\, along with an ensemble of musicians\, will perform a series of short musical compositions derived from “musical material” created by visitors in response to the art on view in Clyfford Still: The Works on Paper. Visual components like color\, texture\, size and gesture will be translated into musical elements\, creating a sonic portrait of the works on view. \n[Free – The Clyfford Still Museum is free every Friday 5p – 8p] \nMore info: https://clyffordstillmuseum.org/event/performance-20-works-in-20-minutes/

SUMMARY:Denver General Obligation (GO) Bonds Public Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Periodically\, the City and County of Denver authorizes General Obligation (GO) Bonds to restore\, replace\, and expand infrastructure and capital assets across the city. Denver plans to present the next general obligation bond (GO Bond) authorization to voters in November 2017\, based on Elevate 2020\, the 2015-2020 Six Year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). The CIP identifies Denver’s major city asset rehabilitation needs and new investment opportunities in capital infrastructure. Projects that the GO Bond can pay for must be city-owned and operated assets. \nThe last GO bond was the Better Denver Bond Program in 2007\, which provided funding for more than 380 projects related to health and human services\, public safety and culture. \n\nPublic input on the 2017 bond process will begin with initial public meetings in November and December 2016 to gather feedback from residents on their ideas for areas of capital investment. The information gathered during this phase will help identify a package of proposals that will be submitted to City Council for referral to the November 2017 ballot. \nRead the press release from Mayor Hancock announcing the community meetings (en Español). \n\n\n\n\n\nAttend a Community Meeting\nThese meetings are co-hosted with Denver City Council members. \nDownload meeting invitation flyers\nEnglish (PDF) — español (PDF) \n\nThese meetings are co-hosted with Denver City Council members: \nTuesday\, November 15\, 6-7:30 p.m: Montbello Campus\, 5000 Crown Blvd. \nThursday\, November 17\, 6-7:30 p.m: Teller Elementary School\, 1150 Garfield St. \nTuesday\, November 29\, 6-7:30 p.m.: Corky Gonzales Library\, 1498 Irving St. \nThursday\, December 1\, 6-7:30 p.m.: Lincoln High School\, 2285 S. SUMMARY:European Book Club – Death and the Penguin
DESCRIPTION:A book club with a twist! The European Book Club at the Alliance Française de Denver meets monthly on the last Tuesday of the month to discuss a different Europe-centered book (in ENGLISH). Refreshments are provided\, but space is limited so reserving your spot is essential. \nAbout the Book: In the widely hailed prequel to Penguin Lost\, aspiring writer Viktor Zolotaryov leads a down-and-out life in poverty-and-violence-wracked Kiev—he’s out of work and his only friend is a penguin\, Misha\, that he rescued when the local zoo started getting rid of animals. Even more nerve-wracking: a local mobster has taken a shine to Misha and wants to keep borrowing him for events. \nViktor thinks he’s finally caught a break when he lands a well-paying job at the Kiev newspaper writing “living obituaries” of local dignitaries—articles to be filed for use when the time comes. \nThe only thing is\, it seems the time always comes as soon as Viktor writes the article. Slowly understanding that his own life may be in jeopardy\, Viktor also realizes that the only thing that might be keeping him alive is his penguin. \nMore info and reservations: http://www.afdenver.org/event/european-book-club-death-and-the-penguin/ \n[Free for AF Denver members; $5 others]

SUMMARY:Planet X-mas Party
DESCRIPTION:With all of the chaos occurring throughout the world\, we can often feel as though we are powerless to the influence of unseen forces pulling on us\, altering our intended course\, and impacting our daily lives. Conspiracy Theorists\, and even some noted Astronomers\, suggest that there could be yet another planet that orbits within our solar system\, Planet X. This mysterious and mythical planet\, which no one has actually discovered as yet\, could be imposing its gravitational pull on the other planetary bodies in our solar system\, threatening to disrupt their orbits\, reeking havoc and causing a cataclysm of cosmic proportions. \nThis holiday season Leon Gallery invites you to join them for an evening of holiday cheer and revelry\, enjoying the company of kind hearts and creative souls\, while playfully indulging in the possibility that\, unbeknownst to us on this little blue ball hurtling through space\, we could be on a collision course with some dark\, immense\, and foreboding celestial body. \nThe evening will involve tasty treats\, delicious drinks\, great music\, stimulating conversation\, and\, of course\, dancing! \n[Free] \nMore info: https://www.facebook.com/events/773774469441657/ \nMore about the featured artist\, Jonathan Saiz: \nAfter spending several years in Greece\, Paris\, and Mexico\, Saiz has triumphantly returned to Denver and it’s artistic community\, poised to shatter whatever expectations the local critics\, curators\, and collectors may have about of his practice. Courageously exploring controversial subject matter and unconventional materials\, Saiz’s signature lush\, polished style has evolved into a chaotic\, convulsive\, and dynamic manifestation of the deep\, dark terrors we all imagine. He has vulnerably tapped into and exposed the fears he indulges in\, a cacophony of conspiracy theories\, provoked by the daily barrage of socio-political battles\, the surpassing of climate change thresholds\, and the potential destructiveness of cosmological forces\, that continuously threaten our world and our way of life. In the artist’s own words\, “Something doesn’t feel right.”

SUMMARY:Krampusnacht
DESCRIPTION:Guess who’s coming to town this winter… \nIt’s Krampusnacht at the Denver Christkindl Market!\nKrampus celebrations take place every year on Dec. 5\, the eve of St. Nicholas’ Day in Austro-Bavarian Alpine folklore. During Christmas season Krampus\, a horned\, half-goat\, half-demon figure\, punishes children who have misbehaved\, in contrast with St. Nicholas\, who rewards the well-behaved with gifts. \nRegions in Europe feature similar figures and while its origin of remains unclear\, this Krampus celebration is just good fun… unless\, of course\, you’ve misbehaved… \nLearn more about Krampus here. \n[Free] \nMore info: http://www.denverchristkindlmarket.com/

SUMMARY:Meet the Christkind & St. Nikolaus
DESCRIPTION:Meet the Christkind\, the namesake of the Denver Christkindl Market ! Visit with St. Nikolaus. \nThe Christkind is the traditional Christmas gift-bringer in parts of Germany\, Austria\, and in other European countries. A fairy-like being with her white and golden dress\, blond locks and golden crown\, the Christkind has been the symbol of our event for years now. The idea that the Christkind brings children their Christmas gifts goes back to the protestant reformer\, Martin Luther (1483-1546). \nThe Christkind visited the Grand Opening Ceremony to recite her famous prologue to welcome visitors to the Denver Christkindl Market. The young and young at heart will have the opportunity to meet and take pictures with her as she pays regular visits to “her” market. \n[Free] \nMore info: http://www.denverchristkindlmarket.com
