DESCRIPTION:Looking Forward: Demographic Change\, Economic Shifts\, and the Role of the Arts\na conversation with Manuel Pastor \nDenver—like much of the metropolitan United States—is experiencing a combination of demographic and economic change. While increasing diversity is welcomed by many\, it is feared by others. These diverging views are playing out against a backdrop of growing income segregation and inequality\, which seeds economic despair\, increases tensions and isolates communities. and enjoyment. The arts can be an important tool to address these broader social dynamics – art can advance inclusivity and equity\, and promote community empowerment\, inter-group understanding and metropolitan prosperity. This speaker series will bring into focus how these dynamics are playing out in both Denver and across the United States\, and highlight how the arts can support community inclusion and advance organizations’ goals.This presentation will lift up how these dynamics are playing out in both Denver and the United States and highlight how a nation that is itself facing sharp generational\, and racial divisions—as well as proposals to eliminate national arts funding—can center equity as part of arts programming. \nDr. Manuel Pastor is Professor of Sociology and American Studies & Ethnicity at the University of Southern California. DESCRIPTION:Tiny Tots gets children truly “inside the orchestra” by seating the audience on the floor and surrounding them with our 30+ piece professional orchestra. The conductor faces the audience and talks directly to the kids throughout the performance\, asking questions and teaching them about the music as it is playing around them. \nDesigned for children six and under\, Tiny Tots is a 45-minute program that gives young ones the chance to interact with the conductor and the musicians and learn about the instruments in the process. Children are encouraged to respond to different elements of the music\, from thinking about how music makes them feel to getting on their feet and moving. They are treated to up-close-and-personal demos by various instruments\, introduced to musical concepts\, emotional understanding of the arts\, and artistic expression. The music selection\, design\, and scripting of Tiny Tots is geared to connect very young children with music – physically\, emotionally\, and mentally. Children are also encouraged to take a closer look at the instruments and ask questions of the musicians after the concert has concluded. DESCRIPTION:Join the Alliance Française for a look at one of the world’s most famous museums\, the Louvre! Presentations are open to all and given in English\, with some French too. \nAfter being the French kings’ palace\, Le Louvre became the most visited museum in the world and one of the most famous. It is also a scientific laboratory for the Arts. \nIn a series of three Cafés des Arts with a new format\, we will examine its amazing history and fantastic collections and the importance it played in Western culture. \nWe will look at the building as well as the historical events which led to its collections and then try to understand a few of the greatest art pieces in its collections. \nEach Café will be an independent presentation\, engaging research in a separate field and historical period.
