SUMMARY:Rediscovering the Hall Brothers: Race and Photography in Denver
DESCRIPTION:In 2014\, Megan Friedel\, curator of photography at History Colorado\, discovered a collection of photographs at the museum that were allegedly taken by an African American photographer in Denver in the early 1900s. As she researched the collection\, Friedel discovered that that true story of the photos was far more complicated. Photographers Herman\, Harold and Edmeaux Hall were mixed-race brothers of African and French descent\, and their images revealed a complex story of racial migration to Denver and why a family would choose to “pass” as white in the city between 1910 and 1930. \nIn February 2015\, Friedel presented her research on the Hall family photographs at History Colorado. Shortly after\, and thirty years after the collection was donated to the museum\, more than 100 additional photos taken by the Hall brothers were discovered in a basement in Curtis Park. Join curator Friedel as she presents the new chapter of her research on the Hall family and their photos and pieces together what this new discovery means for understanding race relations in Denver in the early twentieth century. \nTickets: $4-$5 \nMore info and tickets: http://www.historycolorado.org/event/rediscovering-hall-brothers-race-and-photography-denver

SUMMARY:film/Still: Peggy Guggenheim: Art Addict
DESCRIPTION:In honor of Women of Abstract Expressionism\, the next edition of the Clyfford Still Museum’s ongoing collaboration with the Denver Film Society offers a fascinating look at one of abstract expressionism’s most galvanizing figures. Peggy Guggenheim: Art Addict\, a feature documentary based on Peggy Guggenheim’s sole authorized biography\, explores the life of a 20th-century art icon. Ahead of her time and an heiress to her family fortune\, Guggenheim became a central figure in the modern art movement. Her colorful personal history included trysts\, affairs\, and marriages with such figures as Samuel Beckett\, Max Ernst\, Jackson Pollock\, and Marcel Duchamp. While fighting through personal tragedy\, she maintained her vision to build one of the most important collections of modern art\, which today is enshrined in her famous Venetian palazzo. \nPURCHASE TICKETS \nSie FilmCenter\n$11 public; $7 Clyfford Still Museum and Denver Film Society Members
