SUMMARY:Raconteur: First Inebriation
DESCRIPTION:Do you remember the first time you tried a beer? Or how about the first time you smoked a joint? What about the first time you got drunk on that drug called love? What happened next? The first time Amber got falling down drunk was off of a Mike’s Hard Lemonade at the ripe age of 21. That true story is too short to tell on stage so you get it here. We promise not to judge\, but we might laugh – with you of course. Hear the tales of three phenomenal storytellers and then bring your words to the stage in the fourth Raconteur event. \nMore info: http://raconteurdenver.com/new-events/2016/7/12/topic-first-inebriation

SUMMARY:IMAGINE 2020 Speaker Series: Artist As... Citizen\, Neighbor\, Change Agent
DESCRIPTION:Artists are painters\, filmmakers\, dancers\, writers\, and musicians. But can they also be citizens\, neighbors\, and change agents? Would the world be a better place if we tapped artists as natural community assets who can help create real change in neighborhoods? The Laundromat Project (The LP) deeply believes so. By investing in artists\, they amplify the creativity that already exists within communities while building community networks\, solving problems\, and enhancing a local sense of ownership. Every day\, The LP grapples with both the power and the challenges of being a good and artful citizen\, neighbor\, and catalyst for change within diverse settings. Kemi Ilesanmi\, Executive Director of The LP\, will examine this and more as she explores how an arts organization may intentionally help to create a community of neighbors\, artists included. \nThe Laundromat Project (The LP) achieves its mission by bringing socially relevant and socially engaged arts programming to laundromats and other everyday community spaces in order to reach as many of their neighbors as possible. \n3 p.m.      Check In \n3:30 p.m.   Kemi Ilesanmi \n4:30 p.m.   Q & A \n5 p.m.       Reception with Cash Bar \nFREE. SUMMARY:Astronomy on Tap
DESCRIPTION:Science is even better with beer! Astronomy on Tap brings together free astronomy lectures AND free pours of some amazing\, Colorado-sourced beer from Wynkoop! \nFREE event \nMore info: https://www.facebook.com/events/1582705898690075/ \nThis month’s presenters include:\n\nBecky Nevin: \nBecky Nevin is a graduate fellow in the astrophysics and planetary science department at the University of Colorado Boulder. She spends her time searching for galaxies that have more than one black hole. When she’s not learning about black holes\, you can find her skiing or walking around in the mountains or playing frisbee in the lowlands\, all the while drinking beer. \nTalk:\n“It came from space: The solar system’s ultimate weapon”-Learn all about the infamous asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs and left us without pet T-Rex’s\, Brontosaurs cars\, and Pterodactyl delivery services. \nThomas Rogers: \nThomas Rogers is a CU Astrophysics grad student\, graduating this summer. For his thesis project\, Thomas designed and built a soft X-ray spectrograph which was launched on a suborbital sounding rocket in May\, 2015. Thomas named the instrument the Off-plane Grating Rocket for Extended Source Spectroscopy (OGRESS). OGRESS was designed to observe diffuse extended sources such as nearby supernova remnants\, which can be several degrees across on the sky. After his graduation\, Thomas will be designing and building spacecraft as a Systems Engineer at Ball Aerospace. \nTopic:\nThomas will talk about sounding rockets\, including a bit of their history\, what they’re used for\, and why they’re important for science and technology development. \nBaylee Bordwell \nBaylee Bordwell is a graduate student in the astrophysics and planetary science department at the University of Colorado Boulder. She spends her time exploring how fluid motion effects chemical reactions in the atmospheres of gas giant planets. When escape from her cubicle is possible\, she runs to the hills (literally) to backpack and climb. \nTalk:\n“Would you like to know more?” – An interactive newscast from an alternate universe where the human race is engaged in an intragalactic war against an insectoid menace known colloquially as “bugs”. Using our modern knowledge of planets (and exoplanets)\, we can learn quite a lot about the bugs themselves\, their homeworld\, and what intragalactic war would be like…..did you just say Intergalactic War!?
