SUMMARY:Stupid Questions\, Stupid Talents: “What is Sanctuary and how does it work?”
DESCRIPTION:“What is Sanctuary and how does it work?” \n\nDoes pro wrestling have anything to do with the Sanctuary movement?\nThere is only one way to find out. Come join Warm Cookies of the Revolution! \nMore about this event: \nIn this special edition of “Stupid Questions\, Stupid Talents” we’ll be hearing from community members who have been\, and currently are\, in Sanctuary\, learning how we can get involved and what it means for the future of immigrant rights.  Most importantly\, we’ll have a REAL LIVE PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING MATCH! \nUsually\, we ask you to bring your stupid talents\, but tonight we’ll be providing the talent and it sure isn’t stupid. SUMMARY:Black Faces\, White Spaces: A Conversation with Carolyn Finney
DESCRIPTION:In the compelling debut book Black Faces\, White Spaces\, Carolyn Finney explores why African Americans are so underrepresented when it comes to interest in nature\, outdoor recreation\, and environmentalism. Finney argues that the legacies of slavery\, Jim Crow\, and racial violence have shaped cultural understandings of the “great outdoors” and determined who should and can have access to natural spaces. As a member of the U.S. National Parks Advisory Board and a cultural geographer at the University of Kentucky\, Finney is at the forefront of a movement to understand how people negotiate their relationship to the environment. During this evening of impactful discussion\, Finney will address how art\, science\, and popular culture create frameworks for engagement among individuals\, communities\, and organizations to nurture healthy relationships between humans and the environment. This is the second George McJunkin Lecture\, in honor of the African American cowboy whose discovery of ancient bison bones in Folsom\, New Mexico\, helped make archaeological history. A book sale and signing will follow the lecture. \n[$8 – $12] \nMore info and tickets: http://www.dmns.org/learn/adults/after-hours/black-faces-white-spaces-a-conversation-with-carolyn-finney/

SUMMARY:film/Still: BURDEN
DESCRIPTION:This season\, the Clyfford Still Museum is delighted to partner with Alamo Drafthouse to present films that relate to both the exhibitions on view at the Museum and the wider art world. At every screening\, you’ll enjoy more than 30 beers on tap; a full selection of wines and handcrafted cocktails; and a multicourse menu with service right to your seat. Join the Still for new art documentaries about important artists of the 20thcentury as well as films\, screened on the occasion of Shade: Clyfford Still / Mark Bradford\, that explore African American identity\, racism\, art\, and human relationships. \n\nBURDEN (Richard Dewey and Timothy Marrinan\, 2016\, 90 minutes)\nExperience the metamorphosis of the artist Chris Burden\, who guaranteed his place in art history beginning in 1971 while still a student in Southern California. Preceded by a period of often dangerous\, at times stomach-churning performances\, he then reinvented himself as a creator of captivating installations and sculptures\, including an assemblage of antique street lights rewired for solar energy on permanent display outside the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Critic Brian Gordon writes\, “For 45 years\, Chris Burden maintained a quest to challenge perceived boundaries of modern art in an always awe-inspiring manner. …Burdenmeticulously explores a complex\, ever-evolving individual who became one of the most admired artists of his generation.” \n[$8] \nPurchase tickets at drafthouse.com\nMultiple screenings daily. Check Alamo Drafthouse website for listings.\nFree bottomless popcorn for CSM members with member ID.
