SUMMARY:Anderman Photography Lecture Series: An-My Lê
DESCRIPTION:About the Artist: In her work\, An-My Lê examines the culture of war. Drawing equally from the traditions of landscape and combat photography\, she uses a large format camera not to depict the action of battle\, but to give context to how we fight. Lê’s resultant images—of tanks and missiles in seemingly choreographed movements\, ships on a cerulean sea\, or soldiers performing the mundane duties that surround war—are cinematic in scope and resonate with layered meanings and implicit narratives. (DAM) \nThe Anderman Photography Lecture Series presents talks by the preeminent creators and thinkers in photography today. \nDoors open at 6:30 pm \nTickets: $5 for students\, $10 for DAM members and CPAC members\, $15 for general admission. \nMore info and tickets: http://denverartmuseum.org/calendar/anderman-photography-lecture-series-an-my-le

SUMMARY:Logan Lecture: Beverly Fishman
DESCRIPTION:About Artist Beverly Fishman: For more than two decades\, Beverly Fishman has explored the relationship between the body and medicine by mixing optical patterns and vibrant colors with representational elements taken from pharmaceutical and scientific imaging systems in her largely abstract work. Her work ranges from the microscopic to the macroscopic as she magnifies the minute details shown in images of disease cultures and enlarges them to cosmic proportions\, or conversely references seductive mood-altering pharmaceuticals using blown glass. In doing so\, Fishman offers questions about the vulnerability of self and identity in a world largely driven and mediated by advances in science and technology. (DAM) \nDoors open at 5:30 pm; Lecture 6-7:30 pm. \nMeet the Artist: DAM Contemporaries invites you to an après-lecture reception with the artist immediately following each lecture\, at MAD Wine Bar. Enjoy conversations with some of the hottest artists working today\, along with complimentary snacks and a cash bar. \nLecture Tickets: $8 volunteers\, $12 DAMC members and artists\, $15 DAM members\, $18 nonmembers\, students free with valid student ID. \nMore Info and Tickets: http://denverartmuseum.org/calendar/logan-lecture-beverly-fishman

SUMMARY:Haunting: Victoria Lundy on Theremin
DESCRIPTION:Fresh City Life is pleased to host the library’s first theremin concert. This rare instrument was invented by Leon Theremin nearly 100 years ago and is one of the oldest electronic musical instruments. The fascinating interaction between the player and the instrument is a marvel; the musician’s every motion controls and affects the pitch and volume. Victoria Lundy takes her audience on a journey under the earth\, detouring into more traditional music\, then into the air and out into space\, exploring the expressive qualities of the theremin. \nFree event. \nMore info: https://www.denverlibrary.org/fresh
