Art Lecture: Curator’s Circle: Portrait of Toyotomi Hideyoshi

March 15, 2016 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Focusing on the commemorative function of Japanese portraits, this lecture explores the great warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi (1537-98). The portrait of Hideyoshi at the Asian Art Museum is important and rare both as a work of art and as an invaluable document, as it contains the inscription, the date, and the names of those who commissioned and inscribed it. Scholars have, in the main, overlooked the subject of Japanese portraits. Yuki Morishima, Assistant Curator at Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, leads us into this fascinating world.

Lecture will be followed by a reception and chance to meet the speaker.

Doors open at 6 pm. Lecture will take place in the Hamilton Build on the Lower Level.

Program is free but reservations are requested. Reservations will be accepted beginning Dec. 31.
