Artist Panel: Painting/Non-Painting

March 8, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Over the course of the last century, artists have challenged notions of what a painting can be. As long ago as 1910, Picasso added newspaper clippings and things like contact paper and rope to his canvases while by mid-century Pop Artists like Robert Rauschenberg and Andy Warhol incorporated photographic techniques into their processes, blurring painting’s boundaries even more. Join artists Stephen Batura, Terry Maker, and Sarah McKenzie to see how the act of painting (and near-painting) continues to be redefined in the present day. This panel will also consider if and how the intentions of Clyfford Still and his fellow abstract expressionists hold relevance for this continually evolving medium.
