Civic Stitch ‘n Bitch: What is Militarism?

May 18, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Warm Cookies of the Revolution Presents:

What is Militarism?

Does it effect us in similar ways as other “isms” like racisim and sexism?
What are the limits of militarism? When does it begin to take hold?
Do you know why we have yellow ribbons for those at war?
Do you know how to crochet?!

We’ll try to answer these questions and more.

Bring your favorite hand-occupying activity and we’ll converse with combat veterans from WWII through to more contemporary wars as well as veterans of anti-war movements about the effects of permanent war on our civic life.

With:
Ed Wood, 11th generation soldier in his family
Garett Reppenhagen, ARMY sniper in Iraq War
Matt Stys, Robin Guthrie, Emily Yates, members of Iraq Veterans Against the War
Stephen Handen and members of the Bijou Community of Colorado Springs
Plus many others…

Don’t have crochet or wood-whittling skills? No worries, we will have materials and some people with the appropriate knowledge there to keep your hands busy.

[$5 suggested donation (no one is turned away for lack of funds)]

As always we have delicious cookies, Spanish/English interpretation, and childcare (if requested).
