Colorado Dragon Boat Festival

The origins of Dragon Boat Racing date back more than 2,000 years to ancient China, but the sport is growing in popularity worldwide. The Colorado Dragon Boat Festival began in 2001 with 16 teams, and this year 52 teams will compete over the course of the weekend. Highlights of the festival include the opening ceremony during which the spirit of the dragon is awoken through a traditional ceremony by Buddhist monks; the many great Asian food, drink and dessert vendors; cultural performances including martial arts, anime, music, drumming and dance; and of course, the excitement of watching the long dragon-headed boats race across Sloan’s Lake!
