Feminism & Co.: Get Real: Women in Media

March 17, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Get Real: Women in Media

Meet two women who are battling stereotypes to create more accurate portrayals of women in novels and film. Saira Rao, co-founder of In This Together Media, creates young adult novels with more (and more authentic) female characters. Sara Elizabeth Timmins, producer and creative director of Life Out Loud Films, has a similar vision for the movies. They are joined by Bethany Strout, former Associate Editor at Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, for a frank conversation about girls and women in media moderated by Sarah Ellison, contributing editor at Vanity Fair.

What is Feminism & Co.? It’s a program series from the Museum of Contemporary Art that explores contemporary culture through issues relating to women and gender. With film screenings, creative performances, lectures, and panel discussions, these evenings address women’s (and men’s) complicated relationship to art, politics, and sexuality.
