Meet in the Street

August 2, 2015 @ 11:00 am - 6:00 pm

Let’s play! Meet in the Street is all about turing 16th Street Mall into a playful place for pedestrians to hang out, relax and enjoy a sunny Sunday. Free, fun and friendly!

Where will the shuttles go? The 16th Street Free MallRide service will be detoured onto 15th and 17th Streets via the Free MetroRide busses all day to make room for the activities, allowing the public to experience the mall free of bus traffic. Attendees are encouraged to take advantage of the bike- and pedestrian-friendly access in what are typically lanes restricted for buses.

Planned Activities:

  • 16th St. and Welton will be transformed into a lush pop-up park to relax and recharge or get active with yard games such as spike ball and ladder ball. This area also will include two climbing towers and opportunities to kayak and stand-up paddleboard.

Participating Mall Businesses:

  • Visit Glenarm to Welton where Appaloosa, Marlowe’s, and Paramount are offering expanded patio seating all day. Enjoy live music all day at Appaloosa, featuring Whiskey Folk at 6 p.m. and visit Paramount Café for $5 burgers and brats and $3 pints specials.
  • Between Curtis and Champa, Rialto Café will provide expanded patio seating all day. Celebrate a special Spanish Las Ramblas evening with a tapas menu, Spanish wines and Sangrias. From 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., enjoy Tito Malaga, a professional flamenco guitarist.
  • Between Arapahoe and Lawrence, Tilted Kilt will expand its patio seating and provide a live DJ at 3 p.m.

Live Music: Visit the area near Arapahoe Street for music by Eef & The Blues Express (from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.) and Rob Drabkin (from 3 p.m.-6 p.m.). Near California St. enjoy music by Megan Burtt (11 a.m.-1 p.m.), Kelly Triplett (1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.) and Chris Webb (4 p.m. – 6 p.m.). Dueling Pianos will be featured throughout the day between Tremont and Glenarm.

Kids Areas: The entire Mall will feature family-friendly activities, but visit the block between California and Stout where little ones can play kiddie beach volleyball; enjoy free face-painting; and select from a variety of free books to take home from the Denver Public Library’s mobile DPL Connect Book Trike.
