Northwest Denver: Altruism to Amusement

April 10, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

For most of its history, thanks to its geography, northwest Denver has felt like a world apart from the rest of the city. Separated by railroad tracks and the South Platte River, and with much of its land elevated above downtown Denver, the northwest side attracted those who wanted to leave behind the dirt and sin of the early city. Successive waves of immigrants endowed the area with their own cultural traditions. Northwest Denver has also been a pleasure ground, home to Elitch Gardens, Lakeside, and Manhattan Beach amusement parks, beautiful lakes, and other amenities. Join local author Mark Barnhouse as he discusses his book, Northwest Denver, and highlights how this area has evolved along with its recent renewal in popularity as newcomers and longtime Denverites rediscover its charms.

[$4 – $5]
