OPENING: Pushing Boundaries: Early Women Artists of Colorado

March 24, 2016 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

In the late nineteenth and early twentieth  centuries, social norms dictated a number of paths that women were expected to follow. Although some roles in art and education were considered acceptable occupations for educated women of the time, female artists were expected to stay within relatively narrow confines. Tenacious, resilient, and persistent in the face of gender norms, the eighteen Colorado artists featured in this exhibit pushed against these boundaries.

Through a long term research project between the University and the Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art, students at the University of Denver School of Art and Art History planned and presented the exhibition with faculty leadership.

Enjoy light refreshments at this exhibition opening co-hosted by the Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art. The event is free and open to the public.

The Vicki Myhren Gallery at DU offers high-quality exhibitions and programming throughout the year. Free admission for everyone every day!
