Potential for Silence, Sound, and Action: Exploring Experimental Music

December 8, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

During the same period in which Clyfford Still challenged traditional painting methods, experimental musicians such as John Cage, Morton Feldman, Christian Wolff, and Earle Brown sought to drastically alter approaches to musical composition and performance. Join CSM guide Nina Peterson for a short discussion of the musical innovations that occurred contemporaneously with the development of abstract expressionism. Following the talk, electronic musician Dream Hike (Dean Inman) will perform an improvised musical set inspired by the processes and characteristics of experimental music from the 1950s and ’60s.
