The People Vs. VOTING

May 8, 2016 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Warm Cookies of the Revolution’s The People Vs. _______ is back and this time, VOTING is on trial!

We the People have put Police, God, Children, and Retirement on trial and now we’re challenging the most interesting minds in our community to prosecute or defend: VOTING

“Voting is our civic duty.” “Voting changes nothing.” “Voting is strategic.” “Voting is mindless.” “If you don’t vote, you can’t complain.” “Voting is the opiate of the masses.”

Where do YOU stand? Come hear the prosecution and defense, take part in the audience rebuttal, and then we’ll decide who won by…um….well, we’ll figure it out!

Prosecuting:
Anthony Grimes: Anthony is a pastor and activist. He founded the Denver Freedom Riders and is Director of Campaigns and Strategy at the Fellowship of Reconciliation. He creatively defended the police at our last People’s Vs ____ and we expect a full on assault of Voting this time around.

Denise Maes: Denise is Public Policy Director at the ACLU of Colorado. She worked in the White House. Needless to say, she knows what’s up with voting and with trials.

Aaron Goldhamer: By day, Aaron is a lawyer. By night, he’s currently running for political office in Colorado, so get ready for some cognitive dissonance and some verbal fire.

Jice Johnson: Jice is a businesswoman, director of the Black Business Initiative, and helps run Shop Talk Live here in Denver. Voting might not stand a chance after she’s done with it.

Defending:
Jeanette Vizguerra: Jeanette is one of our Reconstructionists in the community and has been a fighter for Justice for Janitors and Immigration reform. See her take on the efficacy of Voting.

Candi CdeBaca: Holy smokes, Candi doesn’t mess around! Whether it’s founding and running Project VOYCE or her Elyria-Swansea neighborhood association, when she defends, she does it with power. Voting has a friend in Candi.

Morgan Hartley: Morgan’s experience is with elections and when he saw we were doing this he simply said, “I want in.” Your wish is our command Morgan. Defend away.

Joe Szuszwalak: Joe is a superhero with Denver Elections. That’s right: when voting is in trouble, it’s “Super Szuswalak” to the rescue!
