The Web of Life: Humans Amid Complex Ecological Networks

February 21, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Life has a hidden order. Ecologist Jennifer Dunne reveals surprising characteristics shared by ecosystems in radically different environments, among different species, and across time. By highlighting patterns in the architecture of how humans and other species interact, Dunne suggests new ways to understand the sustainability of ecosystems  past, present, and future. She also proposes potential lessons for modern humans in fostering a more sustainable future, using examples from preindustrial hunter-gatherer and agricultural societies. Dunne is vice president for Science at the Santa Fe Institute.
