It is also a scientific laboratory for the Arts. \nIn a series of three Cafés des Arts with a new format\, we will examine its amazing history and fantastic collections and the importance it played in Western culture. \nWe will look at the building as well as the historical events which led to its collections and then try to understand a few of the greatest art pieces in its collections. \nEach Café will be an independent presentation\, engaging research in a separate field and historical period. Refreshments are provided\, but space is limited so reserving your spot is essential. \nAbout the Book: In the widely hailed prequel to Penguin Lost\, aspiring writer Viktor Zolotaryov leads a down-and-out life in poverty-and-violence-wracked Kiev—he’s out of work and his only friend is a penguin\, Misha\, that he rescued when the local zoo started getting rid of animals. Even more nerve-wracking: a local mobster has taken a shine to Misha and wants to keep borrowing him for events. \nViktor thinks he’s finally caught a break when he lands a well-paying job at the Kiev newspaper writing “living obituaries” of local dignitaries—articles to be filed for use when the time comes. \nThe only thing is\, it seems the time always comes as soon as Viktor writes the article.
