DESCRIPTION:Ashlee Mack\, director of piano studies\, Knox College\nJames Romig\, professor of music theory and composition\, Western Illinois University \nMusic exists in time\, which moves in only one direction. Because of this\, many works of music provide a listener with a relatively narrow aesthetic path. A viewer of visual art\, on the other hand\, is usually free to choose which artwork to observe and determines his or her own aesthetic experience. \nTaking inspiration from the Clyfford Still Museum’s single-artist setting\, Still\, for Solo Piano\, composed by James Romig\, endeavors to create a “museum of sound\,” offering multiple variations of harmony and rhythm that refer to color and form in Clyfford Still’s paintings. DESCRIPTION:Commissioned by the Denver chamber group Playground Ensemble\, Notes from Clyfford Still is a new work by composer Nathan Hall. DESCRIPTION:The 1980s marked a turning point in recent art history\, from both creative and commercial standpoints. The art world of the late 1960s and ’70s was a relatively small\, modest place. Interest in contemporary art was similarly small\, due in part to the hermetic nature of minimal and conceptual art that dealt mostly with concerns specific to art and artists. \nThis began to change around 1980\, when the work of living artists began to achieve high prices and draw attention to the significance\, and value\, of the art of one’s own time. This rise in the market also coincided with the emergence of a new generation of artists. Learn how to put together a compelling pitch so you’re always prepared to tell people about your work and your artistic practice. \nPresenter: Deanne Gertner\, Senior Project Manager\, NINE dot ARTS \nColorado-born and bred Deanne Gertner works as a Senior Project Manager at NINE dot ARTS\, where she makes art programs happen on budget and on time\, often before construction is even complete. Deanne has played a key role in several NINE dot ARTS projects\, specializing in large-scale\, multi-phase hotels\, such as Hotel Commonwealth in Boston and DoubleTree by Hilton Austin. Her upcoming projects include ground-up hotels in Boulder and Fort Collins\, Colorado as well as Savannah\, Georgia. She joined NINE dot ARTS in 2013 after working in the nonprofit arts sector for over five years with the Colorado Business Committee for the Arts. Deanne holds an English Literature and Fine Arts degree from Regis University and an MFA in Creative Writing from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. She currently sits on the board for Lighthouse Writer’s Workshop as Development Chair in addition to serving as a pro bono Ambassdor Writer for Presenting Denver.
