SUMMARY:FIELD TRIP: Dikeou Collection
DESCRIPTION:Discover a hidden Denver gem! The Dikeou Collection is a Contemporary Art Collection in Downtown Denver that was established in 1998 by siblings\, Devon Dikeou and Pany Dikeou\, and features works by approximately 30 international artists. \nThis place is an experience. After entering the building at 1615 California\, one takes an old elevator up to the fifth floor and when the doors open it feels like you’re a world away from the busy energy of modern life that’s playing out on the 16th Street Mall below. Is this the 1940s? The 1930s? The retro style of the space is disarming and provides a fascinating counterbalance to the very fresh contemporary art\, which is displayed in a series of converted offices. \nOur exclusive Go Play Denver Field Trip to Dikeou will feature a guided tour with Hayley Richardson\, Director of the Dikeou Collection. \nThis Outing Is Best for: Teens and Adults \n[$9]

SUMMARY:Fresh Jazz and Crisp Vinyl Series with Mikey Smith Trio
DESCRIPTION:The Dikeou Collection presents the twentieth installment of the Fresh Jazz and Crisp Vinyl Series on Friday\, June 2\, with a special live performance by the Mikey Smith Trio. A special guest DJ will open and close the event with a set composed of albums from the Dikeou Collection’s vinyl archive. This event is free and open to the public and will take place at the Dikeou Collection\, 1615 California St #515\, from 7-9:30pm. Light refreshments will be provided. \nMikey Smith is a pianist\, multi-instrumentalist\, producer\, composer\, and educator who is passionate about telling stories through music. Born in St. Louis\, MO to a family that is passionate about music\, Mikey grew up on rock and soul before discovering jazz in his early teens\, and quickly became enamored with the art form. He went on to study music at the University of Colorado\, and earned degrees in piano performance and music production in 2017. He is currently an active performer and composer in Denver’s improvisational music scene\, and also works as an accompanist\, composer\, and musical director for the modern dance ensemble Between The Bones\, and composes music for film\, television\, and radio. Several of his pieces are in regular rotation on Denver’s internationally syndicated jazz radio station\, KUVO. \nThe Mikey Smith Trio blends traditional jazz styles with contemporary classical\, rock\, and electronic aesthetics. Their repertoire includes pieces by composers as varied as Thelonius Monk\, Phillip Glass\, and the White Stripes\, as well as original material. The ensemble for the evening is Mikey Smith on piano\, Hunter Roberts on bass\, and Amy Shelly on drums. \nThe Fresh Jazz and Crisp Vinyl Series focuses on jazz musicians living and working today\, whose names are not yet embossed into history\, but whose energy\, wisdom\, well-worn instruments\, and presence in the jazz scene are further defining our admiration for the life form\, Jazz music. Selections from the vinyl archive will thus serve as a remembrance to all the jazz greats who came before the jazz musicians invited to play at this bi-monthly series. \n[Free] \nMore info: https://www.facebook.com/events/300334087077520/
