SUMMARY:Final Week: The Deep End by Jonathan Saiz
DESCRIPTION:One of our favorite exhibitions of the year is coming to a close. Go see it RIGHT NOW! Some 6\,000 tiny paintings make up this fascinating body of work exploring conspiracy theories\, the meaning or life and where the world if headed. \nIf you haven’t been to Leon Gallery before\, don’t be shy. The curators at the gallery are friendly and love the chance to engage with people about art. Seriously. They want you to come in even if you aren’t in a position to buy something (though\, it should be noted that you can take home a little Saiz masterpiece from this show for only $20). \nAbout Jonathan Saiz: \nTaking bold strides as he approaches his mid-thirties\, Jonathan Saiz continues to push the boundaries of his practice\, rigorously exploring the potential of the materials he employs in his work. His paintings have been featured in Juxtapoz Magazine’s “New Contemporary” book from 2014\, Elle Decor in 2015\, and most recently in Veranda. His collaborative product project\, “The Fountain Tarot” in which he produced 79 original paintings for each card within the deck\, has been featured in Vogue twice\, in both 2015 and 2016. \nHis latest exhibition reaffirms the impressive volume of his artistic output\, coming on the heels of a 2012 showing at Gildar Gallery in Denver\, a 2013 exhibition at Alpha Gallery in London\, and an appearance at the 2015 LA Art Fair\, via Leon Gallery. \nSource: Leon Gallery \n[Free] \nMore info: http://www.leongallery.com \nGallery Hours:\nWednesday – Friday 12 pm – 7pm \nSaturday – Sunday 12pm – 5pm

SUMMARY:Planet X-mas Party
DESCRIPTION:With all of the chaos occurring throughout the world\, we can often feel as though we are powerless to the influence of unseen forces pulling on us\, altering our intended course\, and impacting our daily lives. Conspiracy Theorists\, and even some noted Astronomers\, suggest that there could be yet another planet that orbits within our solar system\, Planet X. This mysterious and mythical planet\, which no one has actually discovered as yet\, could be imposing its gravitational pull on the other planetary bodies in our solar system\, threatening to disrupt their orbits\, reeking havoc and causing a cataclysm of cosmic proportions. \nThis holiday season Leon Gallery invites you to join them for an evening of holiday cheer and revelry\, enjoying the company of kind hearts and creative souls\, while playfully indulging in the possibility that\, unbeknownst to us on this little blue ball hurtling through space\, we could be on a collision course with some dark\, immense\, and foreboding celestial body. \nThe evening will involve tasty treats\, delicious drinks\, great music\, stimulating conversation\, and\, of course\, dancing! \n[Free] \nMore info: https://www.facebook.com/events/773774469441657/ \nMore about the featured artist\, Jonathan Saiz: \nAfter spending several years in Greece\, Paris\, and Mexico\, Saiz has triumphantly returned to Denver and it’s artistic community\, poised to shatter whatever expectations the local critics\, curators\, and collectors may have about of his practice. Courageously exploring controversial subject matter and unconventional materials\, Saiz’s signature lush\, polished style has evolved into a chaotic\, convulsive\, and dynamic manifestation of the deep\, dark terrors we all imagine. He has vulnerably tapped into and exposed the fears he indulges in\, a cacophony of conspiracy theories\, provoked by the daily barrage of socio-political battles\, the surpassing of climate change thresholds\, and the potential destructiveness of cosmological forces\, that continuously threaten our world and our way of life. In the artist’s own words\, “Something doesn’t feel right.”

She spends her time searching for galaxies that have more than one black hole. When she’s not learning about black holes\, you can find her skiing or walking around in the mountains or playing frisbee in the lowlands\, all the while drinking beer. \nTalk:\n“It came from space: The solar system’s ultimate weapon”-Learn all about the infamous asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs and left us without pet T-Rex’s\, Brontosaurs cars\, and Pterodactyl delivery services. \nThomas Rogers: \nThomas Rogers is a CU Astrophysics grad student\, graduating this summer. For his thesis project\, Thomas designed and built a soft X-ray spectrograph which was launched on a suborbital sounding rocket in May\, 2015. Thomas named the instrument the Off-plane Grating Rocket for Extended Source Spectroscopy (OGRESS). OGRESS was designed to observe diffuse extended sources such as nearby supernova remnants\, which can be several degrees across on the sky. After his graduation\, Thomas will be designing and building spacecraft as a Systems Engineer at Ball Aerospace. \nTopic:\nThomas will talk about sounding rockets\, including a bit of their history\, what they’re used for\, and why they’re important for science and technology development. \nBaylee Bordwell \nBaylee Bordwell is a graduate student in the astrophysics and planetary science department at the University of Colorado Boulder. She spends her time exploring how fluid motion effects chemical reactions in the atmospheres of gas giant planets. When escape from her cubicle is possible\, she runs to the hills (literally) to backpack and climb. \nTalk:\n“Would you like to know more?” – An interactive newscast from an alternate universe where the human race is engaged in an intragalactic war against an insectoid menace known colloquially as “bugs”. Using our modern knowledge of planets (and exoplanets)\, we can learn quite a lot about the bugs themselves\, their homeworld\, and what intragalactic war would be like…..did you just say Intergalactic War!?
