SUMMARY:Sunday School for Atheists: Minority Interests?
DESCRIPTION:Wyoming has the same representation in the Senate as California. The Senate was created\, in part\, to protect a minority interest: rural people. What other minority interests could we imagine protecting? \nJoin Warm Cookies of he Revolution for a conversation about how we further invent and improve upon our community (local to global). What would working within the current framework look like (reserved elected seats for certain groups? reparations?) and what would need to happen before we can even start politically (cultural capacity\, knowledge\, money\, etc)? \nCo-hosted by Theo Wilson from Shop Talk Live and Rudy Gonzales from Servicios De La Raza\, with some political history framing by University of Denver’s Nancy Wadsworth. \nSunday School for Atheists is for everyone (spiritual but not religious\, recovering Catholics\, evangelicals\, bike-riding Mormons\, believers in The Secret\, and whatever it is you call yourself). Previous topics: forgiveness\, resistance\, obedience\, love\, friendship\, elcoming prisoners back into the community\, killing\, body image\, and more. Come help us explore the further invention of democracy. \nAs always Warm Cookies will have delicious cookies\, Spanish/English interpretation\, and childcare (if requested). \n[$5 suggested donation (no one is turned away for lack of funds)]\n\nMore info: http://www.warmcookiesoftherevolution.org/event/sunday-school-for-atheists-minority-interests/

SUMMARY:Chance to Dance
DESCRIPTION:Denver Arts & Venues is pleased to host Chance to Dance 2016. In its fourth year\, this free\, all-day event celebrates dance as an art form and occurs on the first Saturday of Denver Arts Week\, Denver’s city-wide celebration of art and culture. \nThe day offers professional dance workshops (beginner and intermediate level – open to anyone regardless of age or ability) that the public can register for and attend for free. View the class descriptions and sign up for workshops. \nOver lunch\, enjoy a free performance from the Hannah Kahn Dance Company. Please RSVP for lunch. \nThe Hannah Kahn Dance Company\, one of Denver’s finest professional modern dance troupes has been sharing its passion for dance with the Denver community since 1988. Kahn’s choreography has been called “invigorating.” “virtuosic\,” “liquid and lyrical\,” and “superb.” \nThe free performance at the McNichols Building on November 5 includes a wide range of movement and music styles. There is an exuberant quintet set to Eastern European folk music\, a fluid dance based on partnering set to a wistful Irish tune\, a humorous and playful duet set to a song by 20th century jazz giant Louis Armstrong\, a passionate duet accompanied by a familiar aria from Bizet’s opera Carmen\, and a spirited group work – Fruition – which celebrates the joys of dancing together. \nKahn will lead the program\, providing insights into the choreography and involving the audience in discussion and even some participation for those who are interested! This will be a great chance to see this professional dance company\, up close and personal – and free! \n[Free] \nMore info: http://artsandvenuesdenver.com/events-programs/chance-to-dance/

SUMMARY:The Impossible Task
DESCRIPTION:Join Warm Cookies of the Revolution (the world’s first civic health club) and try to find solutions to the seemingly impossible. Tonight we’ll explore Nationalism\, hearing from experts on Black Nationalism\, Zionism\, and Indigenous Nationhood while getting frustrated by puzzle boxes\, trivia\, ten year-old chess wizards\, and even math for those who can bear it. \n[Free\, RSVP] \nMore info and reservations: http://www.warmcookiesoftherevolution.org/event/the-impossible-task/ \nABOUT WARM COOKIES OF THE REVOLUTION:\n“Uh\, so what’s a Civic Health Club” you ask?\nWell\, you go to a gym to exercise your physical health\, a religious institution to exercise your spiritual health\, and a therapist to exercise your mental health. Warm Cookies of the Revolution is where you go to exercise your Civic Health.\n\n“Got it….But what is Civic Health?”\nAnother great question. You’re sharp. And classy. And really good looking…..\nCivic Health is a measurement of how well we participate in our community as citizens. Are we engaged in the decision making processes? When it comes to our environment\, our education\, our government\, our work/life balance\, our health\, our systems of justice\, etc\, do we have power? Do we know how to affect change? Are our needs and hopes being met?\n\n“That sounds boring…and hard.”\nThat’s what we’re trying to avoid. We are about fun. We know that people work hard all day and are raising families and often the last thing they want to do is go hear a boring lecture on the city budget or be told that the world is falling apart no matter what we do.\n\nSo\, we try to answer the questions “What do we want?” and “How do we get there?” by hosting events that are creative and fun.\nWant to talk about how government should be run? Fine\, but we’re going to build a LEGO city together while it happens! You’re telling me I have to write my elected officials?…okay\, but there better be warm cookies and some milk there…and possibly dance breaks.\n\nThe truth is that those of us who enjoy watching football on Sundays\, and those of us who like to knit\, or bake\, or tell stupid jokes\, or wish we could walk down the fashion runways of Paris\, or like to build robots….we all have the capacity to understand and take part in the decisions that affect our lives. We know that the Revolution won’t be televised and that we have to take part\, but the Revolution also shouldn’t be boring and we should be able to dismantle the aspects of our community that aren’t working while creating beautiful and vibrant and fun\, new systems.\n\n…and we have warm cookies here.\nDelicious\, perfect\, warm cookies.

SUMMARY:Inside the Orchestra: Tiny Tots
DESCRIPTION:Tiny Tots gets children truly “inside the orchestra” by seating the audience on the floor and surrounding them with our 30+ piece professional orchestra. The conductor faces the audience and talk directly to the kids throughout the performance\, asking questions and teaching them about the music as it is playing around them.\n\nDesigned for children six and under\, this 45-minute program gives young ones the chance to interact with the conductor and the musicians and learn about the instruments in the process. Children are encouraged to respond to different elements of the music\, from thinking about how music makes them feel to getting on their feet and moving. They are treated to up-close-and-personal demos by various instruments\, introduced to musical concepts\, emotional understanding of the arts\, and artistic expression. The music selection\, design\, and scripting of Tiny Tots is geared to connect very young children with music – physically\, emotionally\, and mentally.\n\nChildren are also introduced to instrument “families” and are encouraged to take a closer look at the instruments and ask questions of the musicians after the concert has concluded. And\, back by popular demand\, live opera music will be sung by local Central City Opera Ensemble Artists.\n\n\nRegister for the 9:30 a.m. performance at https://insidetheorchestra.org/event-registration/?ee=132\nRegister for the 10:45 a.m. performance at https://insidetheorchestra.org/event-registration/?ee=133\n\n\n[$9.95 for ages 12months and up]

SUMMARY:McNichols Project #2
DESCRIPTION:We had so much fun at the first McNichols Project (along with roughly 900 other party-goers)\, that we can hardly wait for the second installment!\n\n\nFrom the Organizers: Two exciting exhibits inspire McNichols Project #2: Night of ROCK\, commemorating 100 years of Rocky Mountain National Park and the spirit of the 1960s. We also want to celebrate the future of the McNichols Building as we prepare to close for the year to undergo some exciting and transformative renovations.\n\nOn the 2nd floor\, “The Art of Rock: Remembering the 1960s” will have you traveling back in time to the early years of rock & roll when music and musicians played an undeniable role in defining the character and spirit of the 60s. The 3rd floor will transport you to the great outdoors\, specifically Rocky Mountain National Park where Colorado artist Trine Bumiller’s residency inspired her to produce “100 Paintings for 100 Years”.\n\nWe’ll have all your favorite rock covers performed by Grease Pony\, a silent disco set up by SoundDown\, local food trucks and tasty creations\, a craft beer and wine tasting plus cocktails at the cash bar\, tons of games such as giant jenga\, cornhole and ping pong tables\, a high-stakes drawing and much more.\n\nDon’t miss out on Night of ROCK – it will be an indoor\, outdoor\, upstairs\, downstairs\, past and present\, ROCKIN’ night! Also\, check out our video from the last event. We look forward to seeing you!\n\nTickets:\n\nEntry + Craft Beer & Wine Tasting – $25.00\nEntry Only – $20.00
