52 NEW: Kickboxing

February 23, 2019

Whew! Well, that was awesome. As part of my #gpd52new project where I try something new each week, I headed to FLY Kickkbox to try kickboxing! Shout out to Jamaica and Briana who helped wrap my hands, gave me some pointers and made me feel so welcome! The workout was fast paced, but thankfully, there were regular breaks to catch your breath and have some water.

There was something so satisfying about the impact of my hand or foot on the bag. It was grounding in a way I hadn’t expected. Jab. Jab. Uppercut. Front kick. The bag was solid and it somehow made me feel more solid too. When it was time to let loose and give the bag anything and everything I had at the end of class, I loved the feeling of being wildly alive and carefree. What a refreshing escape from the constrained way we move through space every other minute of the day. As if the class wasn’t already rewarding, Fly Kickbox has special impact monitors on the bags that track your hits and their force, which through some magical algorithm then translate to points on a leaderboard at the front of the studio, so you can track your progress or challenge your classmates.

Note: Not sponsored content. I paid for the class just like everyone else.
